The Great Tissue Box Dillema
Posted on Jan 25, 2011 | Filed in: by mrs splendor, finds, its that kind of day, mom, nest

Is anyone else completely annoyed at the tissue box industry for not jumping on board with modern & attractive packaging?

I mean, they’re getting better, but a bright blue and lime green chevron pattern (though I love chevron) still sticks out in my home like a sore thumb! And, I made the mistake of buying those new pretty packaged tissues and since I’ve been sick they’ve left me looking like I could lead Santa’s sleigh. I’ve decided I just need to break down and buy a tissue box cover to house my very favorite tissues. I’ve got four new tissue boxes in the running above! But, until the tissue industry realizes the subtlety of modern design, I will continue to be thoroughly annoyed!

1. Grass Roots Modern | 2. Molla Space Paper Pot | 3. Pfeifer Studio Ebony Tissue Box | 4. Vessel Toro Tissue Ring

And, don’t mind me, I’m just grumpy because I’m sick (and because my house is full of ugly half-empty tissue boxes)! I’ll be back to my glowing & chipper self in no time…

What do you think about all of this? How do you deal with ugly tissue boxes?

I was just thinking about this last night as I looked at my poor sick husbands nightstand and saw that awful lavender box. The tissue ring is really cool. Thanks for sharing!

love the bubble! modern and fun

I couldn't agree more! I have been trying to buy the more stylish ones but they are still ugly. I have one cover but these are so fun.
    Feel better!

I agree. I hate tissue boxes.. They are horrible. I really like option number 2 but i'm not sure how you would fit the tissue in there… like would you have to buy special tissue?

Haha. The monogrammed pottery barn cover was on my Christmas list. :P

beth i am so with you on this! i am eternally searching for a discreet yet stylish modern way to put the tissues in order and out of their ugly patterned box they came in. i love the second white round option- must order soon! i'm sorry you are sick-i feel your pain. hope you feel better soon and in the meantime thank goodness for sex in the city re-runs- that is the only thing that kept me slightly optimistic throughout last weeks' bug that left me inside and away from civilization:)

I JUST said something about this this morning as I opened a hideous looking box… I've taken to hidin the tissues in the cupboard… Lvoe the ones you picked out!

I'm with you on this because I think my boyfriend is addicted to tissues. He has to have them everywhere….. it's ridiculous…. the living room, his office, his car. I mean how much can one person's nose run?!

I have been getting these for the living room:

They are the only ones I can stand.

For design clients, I generally use a fabric remnant from the project and have a tissue box cover. The are a bit less chic than the tissue ring, but work just great. It is basically a drawstring bag that the box slides into.

I love the round one… I have settled for the not horrible but not great modern flower print but I have not had a cold yet this year (knock on wood) so i havent had to deal wiht the red nose issue, hope you get better soon!

Hi there, nice to meet you. I think all the bath thingies are all lacking, especially for modern houses. There was so little to choose from when we were remodelling last year.

#2. hands down. it's chic, fun and simple– all at the same time. so long as you can figure out how to fill it with tissue!!! :)

  • Anna Elder

#1 and 2 would fit in my home nicely. and i totally agree, i don't even buy tissue because i think the boxes are hideous. i just toilet paper. ha. and lots of facial moisturizer when it starts to get dry. i hate that!! feel better soon!

Amen! I have been so disappointed with the selection out there, not to mention the cost of a modern, sleek box cover. No way I'm spending $38 for Jonathan Adler's version…I'm actually thinking of making this: http://www.marthastewart.com/goodthings/felt-tissue-box-holder

    Just clean and unfussy.

    Creative packaging.
    Unique and fantastic new design.

  • Lavender and Lilies

I needed this post. Tissue boxes are plentiful around my house. I left you an award on my blog today!

  • The Zhush

I love your picks here, have you checked out Jonathan Adler's simple tissue boxes? The laquer line is one of my faves.

  • Terri

I love these, especially the first one. I usually just try to stick mine someplace not-so-obvious, unless I have a cold (like I do now), then it's usually sitting right next to me. Hope you start feeling better soon!

  • ag.

SO true! We just bought a bunch of orange and green flowery boxes and they so do NOT go with any room in our house. I love that third one though!

I love the MollaSpace holder, #2–and they're really easy to fill with tissue paper. The bonus is that you can fill it with a toilet paper roll, too, which is what I'd rather buy anyway because it's cheaper! :)
